What Happens in Therapy?
In the first meeting, you and I will just talk. I’ll ask you about yourself and why you are looking for therapy. This is a chance for you to find out if I’m a good fit for you. Therapy works best when you have a good feeling about the therapist, and it’s OK if that’s just a gut feeling that you can’t quite explain. If we talk, and you don’t feel like I’m the right therapist, I’ll point you to some other options.
It won’t hurt my feelings : )
If you decide to keep working with me, you’ll let me know how often you want to meet, how much you can pay, and what you want to work on. If you’re not sure, I’ll make suggestions- we’ll figure it out together.
As we work together, you may decide that you want to change any of these elements.
I do not offer consultations, because in my experience, they don’t offer enough time for us to really get a feel for one another.
Paying for Therapy
I have a sliding scale for therapy that usually ranges between $60 and $150 per 50 minute session for individuals, based on what you are able to pay. If more is within your range, I ask you to pay that in order to support people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to therapy. If $60 is more than you can pay, I’ll have a conversation with you about what resources are available to you.
When we meet for the first time, we can talk about what’s sustainable for you. The idea is that therapy shouldn’t be a strain on your budget.
Unfortunately, I don’t take insurance. I’m happy to talk to you about why.
